I have a lighting set which consists of a rectangular shaped lamp with 3 light bulbs.  After having it for 4 years, I think it is time to change.  I was at IKEA Hackers blog and came upon this idea of using ORGEL Pendant lamp shades.  I love the idea of using Paper Pendant Lamps in the living area.   I think I have to go check out IKEA very soon.

Indian-Inspired Decor

A dear friend of mine has just opened his own cafe downtown.  It has always been his dream to open a cafe and since he loves music, he decided to incorporate a little stage inside the cafe where he and his friends can perform sometimes.  He was a regular busker at the subway station when he was younger.  He and his friends would carry their musical instruments in gator cases and make their way to different subway station every evening.   Well now he can play to his heart content in his cafe.  I was at the cafe opening last weekend and I was in awe with its decor.  The cafe was decorated in indian-inspired furniture.   There were lots of orange/brown hues throughout the cafe.  I really love this cute elephant pouf and Safari Folding Chair which he got from Serena & Lily.   I think I should do some shopping at Serena & Lily soon.

You all know how much I love repurposed furniture and knick-knacks eh? Well just to share – I stumbled upon a few sofas/chairs made of burlaps.  Somehow this material really appeals to me.  I find them very beautiful and I love its shade.  I do wonder though if it would be ok to sit on a chair made of burlap because of its coarse texture.

What do you think?

I was helping a friend to buy gold online the other day when I stumbled upon a beautiful home featured in SF Girl By Bay.  It is just the kind of home that I love.  I can picture myself staying in a house like this.  So cozy and inviting.  The home has white walls and flooring.  It is filled with knick-knacks such as bamboo or wicker baskets and lots of vintage and wood furniture.  Here are some photos of the home.

Have you heard of Reykjavik Corner Store?  Well, I have just discovered this local art and design store and am in love with its products.  Here are some of my favourites for the home.

Red Magazine Rack.  Great for those who need a splash of colour in their living room.

Show-It Bubble that is perfect for storing accessories, hats or scarves.

Bird Hanger Krummi.  This hanger can be used in the closet or hang from the ceiling as home accessory.

While my spouse cannot wait to get his hands on a coolant pump, I cannot wait to find myself some big baskets.  I saw this DIY Basket Lampshade at annaleenashem.blogspot.com and was blown away.  They are so simple and beautiful.  I am so inspired to do a few for my home.  According to the blog owner, she turned the basket upside down and put a plastic suspension device through  the bottom of the basket.  Then she painted the basket black.  A very simple DIY Basket Lampshade and the result is amazing.

Seeing Red

Eventhough the Chinese New Year celebration is over, I am still seeing red.  Well, don’t get me wrong.  I am not mad with anybody. It is just that I have began to love having splashes of red in my home.  Red is consider a very auspicious colour for the Chinese.  Red symbolizes good luck and good fortune.  It is also the colour of happiness.  If you don’t want your home to be too overwhelming or intimidating, it would be great to add a splash of red in the form of a red sofa, chairs or even red throw cushions.

Another great idea is using a red rug too.

I am loving these Hennie Chair from Serena & Lily.  The reason being is the chairs are made of rattan. They remind me of the chairs in my parent’s home.  My mother loves rattan chairs and we have a few of these though in different designs.  Do you know that it is very easy to  clean rattan chairs?  You can just wipe them with a wet cloth or hose them down with water.  I love the designs of the Hennie Chair. It looks great with a throw pillow in bold colour or prints.
