In a few days’ time, the Chinese will bid farewell to The Year of The Rabbit and usher in the Year of The Dragon.  Chinese New Year is celebrated with big family gatherings, gift giving, having sumptuous meals and decorating the home with lots of flowers, plants and signs that symbolize luck and happiness.   Before the New Year arrives, it is important for the Chinese to give the house a good cleaning.  It is to sweep away the bad luck of the previous year.   The home is then decorated with red and gold items as these two colours are dominant during this festival.  Many homes will have red lanterns such as the one below.

The Chinese New Year is less than 2 weeks away.  For those who celebrate, these 2 weeks will probably be a busy one for you.  The Chinese love to decorate their homes with red and gold decorations.  Wearing red is auspicious and this colour is bright and happy and is said to bring good fortune.   Some of the symbolic decorations to usher in the New Year are plants and flowers such as peonies, bamboo and pussy willows.  Many also decorate their homes with the traditional Chinese Knotting which is an auspicious wall hanging.

The 12 Zodiac Embroidery Wall Hanging is also great for the home.

While my spouse was checking out the toro zero turn lawn mowers, I was busy looking for birthday party ideas for a 6 year old.  My niece is celebrating her birthday next month and my sister and I have been looking for inspiration on how to decorate the party as well as party favors.  We are planning to incorporate pastels in the decor like pink, light green, white and blue.  I came across a few lovely ideas from Penandpaperflowers.blogspot.com.  Can’t wait to get started on our little project.
