Furnishing My Home!

I love using things that are made from bamboo, grass and wood.  As such you would find many baskets or wooden crates in my home.  I just love having them in my house.  They are beautiful, sustainable, great for storing things as well as adding a touch of warmth to any room.  I use a lot of baskets to keep my magazines, Canon camera, fruits, knick-knacks and many other loose items around the home.  Actually these baskets can be used in many places around the home such as the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.   I saw many neat basket storage solutions at Better Homes and Gardens.  Here are a few of my favorites.

In my previous post, I mentioned that birdcages are popularly used as home decor items these days.  They are a very sweet piece of home decor for those who want to add a whimsical touch to their home.  Whether they are hanging from the ceiling, placed on the table or on the floor, birdcages will add a very chic vibe in your home.  Some even use birdcages to display cupcakes or cakes in the kitchen.  There are many types of birdcages available, from wooden to metal.   I bought a birdcage made from bamboo and spray-painted it white for decoration in my living room.   This is because a friend of mine who is into fengshui told me that a white birdcages at home enhances prosperity.   I hope this is true and we’ll see how it goes.

When I was pondering over this question – does enzyte work? which my husband asked me, I received a call from a good friend of mine. She told me that she has decided to start her own home-based retail business.  My friend asked me if I can share with her on how to set up a home office in her apartment.  Since she does not have much space in her 1500 sq. ft. apartment,  there are a few options which she can use.

A closet can be turned into a work station.  Just add some file cabinets under a low shelf.  What’s great about this is that when you don’t feel like cleaning up, just shut the door.

The space between the bedroom and the master bath can be turned into a workspace.

The bedroom can double up as a home office by just adding a desk and bookshelves to one of the walls.  Then install a curtain rod and curtain to close off the space for some added privacy.

Birdcages have become a very popular decorative accessory for homes.  They come in my different shapes and sizes.  Birdcages can be bought from flea markets, home stores, garage sale and more.  Many people love to put plants, candles, flowers, dolls, books or fake birds in the birdcages.  Oh I have seen birdcages being used at weddings, bridal showers or engagement parties too.   Do you have any decorative birdcages in your home?  Wait for my next post on what decorating with birdcages means.

It is a daunting and frustrating task to try to keep a clean and well organized children room.  If you plan to give your children’s bedroom a makeover without breaking the bank, here are a few things you can do.

1)  Decorate the wall with some fun wall decals.

2)  Storage bins

A great way to keep all the toys, pencils and etc organized is to use some storage bins.   Oh, aren’t these baby storage bins adorable?  I would love to get some to store my things. They are so pretty. Maybe when I buy diet pills, I can store them in the bins and display them in the kitchen counter.  They are available at DesignPublic.com.

3)  Mirror With Storage

You can place this mirror on the wall.  It has space for a hairbrush, comb, jewelry, etc inside on the doors.  Minnen mirror from Ikea.

4)  A Rug

You can add some colours to your child’s bedroom with a colourful rug.   It can also provide protection to the floor.

My friend who loves to collect plates of various colours, designs and shapes asked me if I have tips for her on how to display them.  She has just moved into her new house about a month ago and are looking for ways on how to display her collection instead of keeping them inside the boxes.  I was browsing Beautiful Homes and Gardens and managed to find some really great ideas on how to do just that.   After I told my friend about it, she jokingly asked me if I have any quick weight loss tips   Below are a few of my favourite ideas from Better Homes And Gardens.

On top of a mantel

Paint the wall in a contrasting colour.  Then mount unfinished wood shelves on to the wall and you will have yourself a grand display of your precious collection.

My friend who does the ab workout with me, has just bought a bed from Ikea and it does not come with a head board.   She likes its design and after assembling it in her bedroom, she feels that it would look better with a headboard.  Hence, she asked me if I have any idea on how to make a headboard.  I finally found what she wanted from Better Homes & Gardens.  There are so many cheap and chic headboards ideas available.  Below are a few of my favorites.

Arrange a variety of letters in different sizes and fonts on the wall.  These letters can be found at craft stores or flea markets

Another great idea is to use two single window panels as headboard.  Remove the glass, install fiberboard or thin plywood on the back for safety.  Then cut out your favorite fabric and secure it with spray adhesive.

Create a shabby chic look with a salvaged mantel.  I love its distressed look.

One of the ways to have some privacy in your home is to have your windows covered with window films.  I have used a frosted window covering on my kitchen windows because I do not want my neighbours to look into my kitchen when I am not at home.  With this frosted window covering, you do not have to roll down the shades again.  It is very easy to apply.  First you have to wipe the windows clean, add water and adhere to a window.  What’s great about using this window covering is that it provides total privacy while letting the sun in.   I plan to use it on my glass door in the kitchen too.  I would like to maintain some privacy while I am siting at my dining table, enjoying my cuppa or going through the pronexin reviews.
